Saucy Buck can give the Brocklesby form another boost in the opener at Folkestone

The Brocklesby sixth Saucy Buck is likely to be all the better for his debut and looks open to improvement.

The Flat season lifts off this week and it's on the turf at Folkestone and Windsor where Monday's best bets arguably lie.

The Brocklesby form received a shot in the arm with Little Libretto's success at Nottingham last week, and can be boosted again in the opener at Folkestone courtesy of Saucy Buck (2.00). Bajan Bullet was beaten just half a length at Nottingham, so there's little between her and Saucy Buck on the form line, but the Brocklesby sixth is likely to be all the better for his debut and looks open to improvement.

Ivory Silk (3.50) has always been better on the all-weather, but Jeremy Gask's five-year-old can take advantage of a lower mark on turf at Windsor. She's been in good heart on polytrack, having finished runner-up on three of her last four starts in handicaps before finding the step up to listed company too much last time. Ivory Silk's young rider, 7 lb claimer John Fahy, is excellent value and a jockey to follow this season.

Plenty of interesting 3-y-os make their handicap debuts in the penultimate race at Folkestone and it could pay to side with Atakora (4.30) who almost certainly hasn't peaked yet. Atakora caught the eye on a couple of occasions in maidens last year, most notably on her final start at Goodwood, when not given a hard time behind Kentucky Derby hopeful Awesome Act and a couple of winners next time out in Morana and Christopher Wren. The step up in trip could be the making of this half-sister to useful middle-distance performer Bandama.

RECOMMENDATIONS
Back to win:

Folkestone 2.00 Saucy Buck
Windsor 3.50 Ivory Silk
Folkestone 4.30 Atakora
