"Mackintosh has a positive jockey booking in Jamie Spencer, but is a real rogue and never one to rely on, so he is opposed with the well-handicapped pair of Megalo Maniac and Reprieved"

A really uninspiring card at Southwell today, but it looks one that can be approached with few lines, so it's worth having a go on the off chance of a couple of results going in our favour and making for a good return.

2.10 - Mackintosh has a positive jockey booking in Jamie Spencer, but is a real rogue and never one to rely on, so he is opposed with the well-handicapped pair of Megalo Maniac and Reprieved. The former had been disappointing up until his third last time, but Richard Fahey is already off to a flying a start and this one looks well up to at least making the three. Reprieved is the more interesting of the pair, having made good late headway over an inadequate trip on his first start for this yard, and he looks ready to strike soon.

2.40 - One of three bankers. Welsh Artist sets the clear standard on form, and, even though he is unproven on the surface, looks impossible to leave out.

3.10 - A shocking seller, but Tiger Hawk should return to winning ways, even though his attitude still isn't all it could be.

3.45 - One of the most interesting races on the card, this three-year-old handicap featuring some unexposed sorts who could prove capable of better in time. The Mark Johnston-trained Ibn Hiyyan is a worthy favourite on the evidence of his second on reappearance, where he also proved himself on the surface. In the hope of a result we also include Bollin Andrew who could potentially take off now upped in trip for handicaps.

4.20 - No point dwelling on this second rotten seller; Colorus is still competitive in much better company than this and looks to have a simple task.

4.50 - There's more runners to contend with in this finale, but we still should have more than enough to get through with Punching and Lethal. Punching has course-and-distance wins to his name and is holding his form well, whilst Lethal showed plenty of speed on his reappearance last time and should strip fitter here.
