Today's Race of the Day comes from Southwell.
"Sunny Spells made it 2 out of 3 here over this trip in December and posted another good effort when second at Wolverhampton last month."
A field are eight are set to go to post for today's Race of the Day at Southwell...
Record Breaker snapped his run of highly frustrating defeats when making the most of a good opportunity at Pontefract last week, making all. A 6 lb penalty is no worry, but his attitude is ahead of this fibresand debut.
Persian Peril hasn't won since May 2009, that success coming here over 11f. He has dropped a fair way in the weights as a result, but has stamina to prove on his return from 7 months off.
Taikoo was off 15 months with a leg injury before finishing fourth twice on turf in September. He's shaped as if amiss both starts since, so comes with risks attached.
Calculating C&D winner who has shown signs of temperament, running creditably on several occasions without getting his his head in front. Expected to give his running again, but more one for the place than the win.
Sunny Spells made it 2 out of 3 here over this trip in December and posted another good effort when second at Wolverhampton last month. Turned in a poor effort on turf last week but return to this venue can see him bounce back.
Shy is a prominent racer who came good when winning twice over 1½m last summer. Her form tailed off after and has fitness/surface queries to answer on return.
Ay Tay Tate was regressive in 2009, but has been placed here 3 times up to 11f here this year since returning from an absence. That said, his stamina seemed stretched over 1½m on turf 9 days ago, so this trip has to be a big worry.
Trojan Gift has had a lot less racing than the rest of these and probably needed the run when dropping away on last month's reappearance at Wolverhampton (2m). Should last longer this time switched to fibresand.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Sunny Spells
2. Record Breaker
3. Calculating
Timeform View: A penalty won't stop Record Breaker if he's in the same mood as last week, but he does also have to prove his effectiveness on this surface and may be worth opposing with Sunny Spells, who has won 2 of his 3 starts at this track. Calculating has to come into consideration for place purposes.
