David Pipe: Trainer of The Tatkin
"Bendant's turn will come, but The Tatkin looks just the type who could rack up a sequence..."
Timeform run the rule over the three-mile handicap hurdle at Ffos Las...
The Tatkin was much improved tackling handicaps for first time in blinkers when taking 3¼m Hereford novice, pulling well clear with second. Should relish this test and looks a major player.
Al Shababiya won twice up to 1½m on Flat in 2010 for David Simcock, and relished test when scoring in similar conditions in C&D handicap hurdle a fortnight ago. Up 7 lb and this is tougher.
Royal Chatelier won 2¾m Hereford handicap hurdle in heavy going nearly a year ago and has rediscovered form of late under similar conditions. More needed to score in this company, though.
Cannon Fire is a fair hurdler on his day, well placed to win 3 times in early-2010/11. Not stood much racing since, and little encouragement on reappearance on New Year's Day.
Western Whisky is a winning chaser who has been badly out of sorts in that sphere, failing to complete on last 5 starts. Hard to support back over smaller obstacles.
Not So Prudent has had a patchy profile for different trainers but more to like about first effort over hurdles in Exeter handicap on New Year's Day. 2 lb lower now and could go well if building on that promise.
Inkberrow Rose responded well to cheekpieces when winning 2 of final 3 starts in 2010/11. Back to form when failing by a neck to Al Shababiya over C&D last time but subsequent 6 lb rise could do for her.
Pension Plan showed plenty in 4 starts over hurdles for Donald McCain in 2009/10. Not shown he retains much ability in 2 runs for new yard after long absence, though, so all to prove.
Tarateeno A 4-time winner over hurdles in the past but not the force of old, off bridle fairly early at Fontwell last time.
Bendant has definite scope off this mark on bumper form, and placed all 3 starts in handicaps this season (including over fences). Stepped up in trip now and his turn will come.
Seymour Eric is a maiden hurdler who showed a bit more in first-time cheekpieces behind Not So Prudent at Exeter last time. Probably has races in him, but will get easier openings than this.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. The Tatkin
2. Bendant
3. Not So Prudent
Timeform View: Bendant's turn will come, but The Tatkin looks just the type who could rack up a sequence and she can follow up her Hereford win. Not So Prudent offered more at Exeter on New Year's Day and will be a danger if building on that effort.
