Uttoxeter is the venue for the Midlands Grand National
Posh Bird is unexposed in races of this nature and looks the pick with Clash Duff declared a non-runner.
Timeform run the rule over the runners for this year's Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter....
Tamarinbleu is a moody customer who ended long losing run in 21f veterans chase at Haydock in December. Creditable third over timber last time, but not certain this marathon test will play to strengths.
Arbor Supreme - NON RUNNER
Roalco de Farges made a winning start over fences at Newbury (2¾m) in November. Stuck on well when splitting 2 next-time-out winners upped to 3m at Chepstow last month and contender if staying this far.
Connak made a Winning start for new yard after long absence in 3m Exeter novice chase last month. Let down by jumping in face of stiffer tasks since and others look stronger now tackling a longer trip.
Clash Duff - NON RUNNER.
Mohayer's quirks looked a thing of the past when recording a brace of wins at up to 25f at the back-end of last year, but tame effort with more emphasis on stamina last time and even further to travel here
Maringo Bay matched winning hurdling form when placed all 3 tries at up to 3m over fences this term, doing best work late when second at Market Rasen last time, but this looks tough on handicap bow.
Mr Moss was better than ever when opening chasing account at Wetherby (25f) in October. Further progress when going down narrowly to an improver at Doncaster recently and type to relish this stamina test.
Major Malarkey is a strong stayer who ran right up to his best when fourth at Warwick (29f) in January. Soon pulled up after blundering at the first at Haydock last time, but definite player if back on his game.
Ballyfitz produced a fine effort when second in this race off a higher mark last year, but well below best since occupying the same position at Cheltenham in November, taking little interest last time.
Chamirey was a dual chase winner in early-2011, but done little this season aside from a very muddling second in a Cross Country Chase at Cheltenham in December, again folding tamely at Haydock last month.
Another Palm is a winning hurdler/chaser who ran well when twice finding one too good over marathon trips last year. Best excused latest run over the National fences in December, but others better treated.
Ballyfoy is a thorough stayer who found 3m barely adequate when going down narrowly at Sandown last weekend. This test sure to see him in a much better light and another bold show on the cards.
Master Overseer is a useful hurdler/chaser who returned on top of his game when landing a 3m handicap hurdle at Chepstow in November, but gone with little fluency returned to fences since, including in this headgear.
Honourable Arthur's career took off since cheekpieces fitted over fences, recording fourth win at Wincanton (25f) in December. Good fourth upped to 29f last time and no surprise if he was in the mix once more.
Posh Bird improved since joining this yard, outstaying rivals at Catterick (3¾m) in January. Fine second in Eider at Newcastle last month and remains unexposed in races of this nature.
Mohr Rahrere looked perked up by a 5-month break when making a winning return to the chasing scene at Bangor (3m) in November. Clearly best fresh, but this altogether more demanding from 2 lb out of the weights.
Hills Of Aran showed he retains some ability when twice placed in hunters in recent months, but clearly not the force of old and plenty on from 3 lb out of the weights back in a handicap (unseated latest).
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Posh Bird
2. Mr Moss
3. Major Malarkey
Timeform View: Posh Bird is unexposed in races of this nature and looks the pick with Clash Duff declared a non-runner. Mr Moss looks a likely type to benefit from the extra stamina demands of this contest and also makes the shortlist, alongside Major Malarkey.
