Newmarket's July Course

"Al Kazeem sets a high standard on his Newbury win and a repetition will make him very hard to beat."

A small but select field for this mile-and-a-quarter minor event...

Al Kazeem is most progressive, winning two of his four starts (all at Newbury), defeating two who have subsequently gone in valuable events in Labarinto and Fulgur in a mile-and-a-quarter handicap when last seen in May. He'll be hard to beat if close to that form.

Barbican beat a couple of next-time-out winners on his debut and followed up in good style in a handicap at Doncaster in April. He has gone on improving in defeat since but has a fair bit to find on these terms unless progressing again.

Halfsin was expensive to follow in his juvenile campaign, but that hasn't been the case this year, and he completed a hat-trick when gamely making all over course and distance last time. This is tougher still but he's clearly still going the right way.

Moriarty won twice at two and took a further step forward when second in a 10-furlong Group 3 at the Curragh in May. He didn't run badly in the Gordon Stakes last time and will be more at home in this grade down in trip.

Roayh finished third in the Coventry at Royal Ascot and dead-heated in a three-runner race at Kempton in 2010. He hasn't been seen since running too freely at Meydan in February and is risky stepping up three furlongs in trip.

Slim Shadey has been set some stiff tasks since winning a minor event at Ascot this time last year and, though he's generally held his form, looks up against it again. He is yet to prove himself beyond a mile.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Al Kazeem
2. Halfsin
3. Moriarty

Timeform View: Al Kazeem sets a high standard on his Newbury win and a repetition will make him very hard to beat. Halfsin might improve past Moriarty and claim the runner-up spot.
