Kris Kin: Took the Dee Stakes en route to the Derby in 2003

"Glen’s Diamond steps up in class here but he has earned that right and he should be even more at home over this longer trip."

The Dee Stakes has proved the more informative of Chester's Derby Trials in recent years, the 2003 winner Kris Kin the last horse to double up at Epsom. Timeform go through the field for this year's renewal...

Glen's Diamond was progressive at two years, winning a maiden and a seven-furlong nursery. He still looked inexperienced when a ready winner at Musselburgh on his reappearance and looks ready for this step up in trip and class.

Laajooj is a son of Azamour who is related to some useful types, and he fetched 150,000 gns as a yearling. He improved when landing a Newbury maiden on his reappearance, but speed looked his main asset there (dam a five furlong winner) and the longer trip is a worry.

Maqaraat is a Dante entrant whose second on his reappearance at Newmarket has been franked by the subsequent wins of the first and third. He is open to further improvement and is one of the more interesting contenders.

The Paddyman won his maiden impressively in 2010 and ran with credit in pattern company afterwards. He didn't run badly on his reappearance in the Free Handicap and has the form to go close if seeing out this longer trip.

Tinkertown won twice at two, but was much improved on his recent comeback when powering clear in a handicap over a mile at Kempton. He wasn't at his best last time but is well worth a try at this trip.

Tlaad is closely related to several winners, notably the smart Queen's Best. He's hard to recommend making his debut in this company.

Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Glen's Diamond
2. Maqaraat
3. Tinkertown

Timeform View: Glen's Diamond steps up in class here but he has earned that right and he should be even more at home over this longer trip. Maqaraat's latest second has been well advertised since and he can prove the main danger.
