Wigmore Hall: Timeform top-rated in the Arlington Million

The Arlington Million (due off 23:15 BST on Saturday) has attracted a strong line-up, including Aidan O'Brien's Cape Blanco and Michael Bell's Wigmore Hall, but will either of them be bringing the prize back over the Atlantic? Timeform go through the runners & give you top 5 ratings for the Secretariat and Beverley D...

Rahystrada (Timeform weight-adjusted rating 129) is a C&D winner having won the Arlington Handicap in Chicago last season, that a smart performance where he defeated Tajaaweed by a length and a half. He has raced three times this season and managed to land the Colonial Turf Cup Stakes last time out, the pick of his form so far this year, but even that leaves him with something to find.

Tajaaweed (129) was a fair performer in Britain for Sir Michael Stoute during 2008, winning the Dee Stakes before finishing eighth in the Derby. Finished sixth in this race last year but won over course and distance as recently as last month when landing the Arlington Handicap and looks one of the more interesting from the home contingent.

Dean's Kitten (126) is a fairly useful performer who gave a creditable display when finishing third behind Tajaaweed in the Arlington Handicap last time out, but there is no reason why he should reverse that form and he comes here with a lot to do.

Zack Hall (124+) won 3 times at Saint-Cloud in 2010 (in two minor events and a listed contest) before an unsuccessful attempt in Group 2 company at the end of the year. Produced by far his best effort in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last time, but every chance that effort flatters him having been beaten four lengths into fourth (of five) behind Sarafina, and would still be playing for places at best even if repeating that.

Gio Ponti (137) won the Man O' War Stakes before finishing second in this race last year behind Debussy, despite having looked all over the winner, and completed the season at Churchill Downs when staying on well to finish third behind Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile. Opened this season with a fifth in the Dubai World Cup and was beaten by Cape Blanco last time, when going for a third Man O'War, but often hasn't seen to best effect and not hard to see him getting back nearer his peak.

Proceed Bee (125) finished third behind Tajaaweed on his penultimate start over C&D in the Arlington Handicap but will do well to even place here.

Cape Blanco (138) was a progressive 3-y-o last season, when winning the Irish Derby and Irish Champion Stakes. Hasn't produced the same level of form this year, as yet, but beat Gio Ponti by two and a quarter lengths in the Man O'War at Belmont last time and again likely to be at a tactical advantage over that rival, with Spencer likely to keep him handy once more.

Mission Approved (132) was second behind Gio Ponti in last season's Man O' War and finished only fourth behind Cape Blanco in this year's renewal, so looks to be up against it. If reproducing something like his very best form, however, a placed effort isn't entirely out of the question, especially as he could get the run of the race out in front.

Wigmore Hall (139) progressed well in 2010, winning a handicap at Newmarket before going on to land the John Smith's Cup at York. Has continued to improve this season, winning the Jebel Hatta at Meydan in March before finishing third in the Dubai Duty Free, and although he has been below his best on latest two starts, when finishing down the field in the QEII Cup in Hong Kong and the Singapore International Cup, it's not hard to see him bouncing back.

General Perfect (120) is yet to place in Graded company and hasn't won since his debut, so it will be a big surprise if he can figure here given the strength of this year's renewal.

Timeform 1-2-3
1. Wigmore Hall
2. Cape Blanco
3. Gio Ponti

Timeform View: Michael Bell and Hayley Turner have every chance of landing the prize if Wigmore Hall is able to reproduce some of his better form from the Dubai Carnival and, at the prices, he makes more appeal than Cape Blanco and Gio Ponti.
