"Iron Condor has been crying out for this sort of trip to date and is in a much lesser race to the nursery in which he struggled last back-end."

Timeform's placepot team encountered a near miss at Pontefract last Tuesday so they're going to have another stab at a potentially sizeable pot at the same track today.

2:10 - Given the way Richard Fahey's juveniles have been getting on this year, Sapphire Girl, who's also bred to make a two-year-old, is the obvious first choice in the opening maiden, whilst Tom Dascombe's stable seems to be getting back on track, with a couple of his newcomers running well on Friday/Saturday, so we're going to side with his Little Miss Take, too.

2:40 - Il Portico is worth including in the second leg as he strikes as the most solid of these, having just won what was, admittedly a weak handicap at Wolverhampton, but the feeling is that he may just prove vulnerable to some potential improvers, one of whom is Iron Condor who's been crying out for this sort of trip to date and is in a much lesser race to the nursery in which he struggled last back-end.

3:10 - We reckon three will be required to get us through a very competitive sprint handicap. A stiff six furlongs is absolutely ideal for Baldemar, and having shaped as if still in form at Wolverhampton last time, he seems sure to be thereabouts, as does Go Go Green. He's three from three at this track and his latest win last October has worked out very well with both the placed horses successful on their next outing. Internationaldebut, the final selection, is tough to win with as he's proved on his first two starts for Paul Midgley, but he's clearly returned in good form and is sure to be travelling well off what looks likely to be a strong pace.

3:40 -Born To Perform appealed as some way ahead of his mark when runner-up at Redcar recently so it's hard not to include him, but another marked step up in trip raises enough doubt for us to look for some insurance. Dan Buoy is so unreliable and moody that he can never be considered a 'placepot horse' so instead we're going to opt for the well-handicapped King in Waiting who's been in good form over hurdles for his new yard.

4:10 - It wouldn't be a huge surprise were the well-bred Bated Breath to get his career off to a winning start, but for placepot purposes we'd rather play it safe and William Haggas' Tagseed has the experience edge over his rival main market rival.

4:40 - As if a large-field handicap wasn't a tough enough task to end proceedings, there doesn't appear to be a single front runner in the final leg. As a result we're just going to keep things simple with the in-form Ella Woodcock and Brushing both going in, accompanied by a more unorthodox selection in the shape of Sarwin, who'll hopefully turn up in the same form as his encouraging reappearance at Wolverhampton (has since run poorly).
