"Cygnet, who hasn’t had much racing, is a progressive sort and is in typical mould of a Luca Cumani handicapper who could well climb the ranks."
Following a final-leg failure at Newcastle yesterday it's on to Nottingham for today's placepot.
5.35 - Richard Hannon's juveniles are in tremendous form but we have decided to oppose his runner here and instead go with a pair who have racecourse experience on their side. Just For Leo showed bright speed before tiring on his debut, and Surely This Time hails from a yard whose two-year-olds are getting into full swing and he will improve.
6.05 - A competitive big-field handicap which could potentially use plenty of lines. Two non-runners means it's down from seventeen runners to fifteen and, consequently, four places to three. However, Desert Strike is a confident first selection as he would have been much closer in a similar event here ten days ago if not for meeting trouble. Also included is Thoughtsofstardom who is well treated back on turf and runs over his optimum trip today.
6.35 - This maiden revolves around the well-being of the favourite, Kanaf, who showed promise when third on his debut last year but, due to injury, hasn't been seen since. It is admittedly a very early stage, but, at the time of writing, the market suggests that Kanaf should be straight enough to do himself justice.
7.05 - Time for another banker. Cygnet, who hasn't had much racing, is a progressive sort and is in typical mould of a Luca Cumani handicapper who could well climb the ranks. He's hard to oppose on his reappearance.
7.35 - A trappy three-year-old contest typically featuring plenty of totally unexposed sorts. David Lanigan landed a gamble with handicap debutant Sparkling Smile at Beverley last week and his runner in this, Leader of The Land, looks to be similarly well fancied based on the early market moves. Pascalina has more substance to her form, travelling well when fifth on her handicap debut last time, and should be suited by this faster ground so goes in as our second selection.
8.05 - Oriental Scot shaped with plenty of promise on his first two starts, including when runner-up to a subsequent winner at Wolverhampton, and has strong claims here, especially considering his flop at Southwell last time is easily excused on account of the different surface. With just the seven runners it's wise to include another and Primary Colors, who shaped well when down the field in maidens last year, should do better in this lesser company.

6.05 - 1, 10
6.35 - 4
7.05 - 5
