"Joining him will be Master Rooney, who’s by far the least exposed in the field and unsurprisingly, given his stature, shaped as if he’d come on for his reappearance at Beverley."
Timeform's placepot team's persistent approach throughout April eventually got its just reward last week, with a most profitable seven days rounded off with success at Bath yesterday. Now, having got right back on track we're trying to carry the momentum on into May, starting with Newcastle today.
2:10 - Regardless of how unlikely it seems that the well-handicapped Fasiliyanne will be kept out of the three, given the encouragement of her recent Catterick display, large-field sprint handicaps always call for a cautious approach, so both Fashion Icon and Darcy's Pride act as a bit of insurance.
2:40 - There's little to choose between Dream Lodge and Lovelace in the second leg, but, in truth, it's hard to see either of them finishing out of the first two, so as an attempt to keep lines in the bank, marginal preference is for the former, whose shrewd yard is more than likely to have got him wound up for his return.
3:10 - Of the first four in the betting in leg three, only Sweet Child 'O Mine is proven at the trip so he seems a solid selection, albeit having his first turf outing, whilst Nimue looks to have been let in lightly off a mark of 80 and should have few problems if this turns into a speed test.
3:40 - Dancing Dude stirkes as an opposable favourite given misgivings regarding his temperament, with Stetson the obvious one to take him on with. Alan Swinbank's four-year-old has already shown enough in bumpers to think he's got more ability than most of these and has a fitness edge over a number of his rivals.
4:10 - Though usually inconsistent, Buachaill Dona has saved his best form for this track in the last two seasons and an encouraging reappearance gives more reason to believe he'll produce a bold showing once more. Joining him will be Master Rooney, who's by far the least exposed in the field and unsurprisingly, given his stature, shaped as if he'd come on for his reappearance at Beverley.
4:40 - Banking in the last leg is always a controversial move, but nothing other than Morocchius boasts sound enough claims to warrant a place. Julie Camacho's gelding thrived last summer and offered enough promise on his reappearance to suggest he can get back on the up.
