"The best-handicapped horse all day is Bogside Theatre, having dropped down the weights through 2009, that campaign effectively a write-off, but her recent successful spell hurdling has revealed that all her old enthusiasm and ability is intact, and, put simply, she should win"
Early season on the Flat is usually a good placepot hunting ground, though this afternoon's card at Musselburgh doesn't look that playable, as there's no knocking the obvious ones, so the approach has to be few lines with high stakes in order to maximise the payout.
2.20 - Amiss when last seen ten months ago and now reappearing in the bottom grade, Wind Star has big questions to answer, certainly worth taking on today, and we'll do that with Fremen who has proven his well-being this year with success in a Wolverhampton claimer.
2.50 - Highly regarded in her early days, Haigh Hall is potentially well handicapped starting out for the red-hot Richard Fahey, but such a sharp test as five furlongs at Musselburgh will almost certainly be a shock to the system for one who hasn't raced for almost two years. Therefore, this is one race in which we can play for a result, and the recommendations are River Falcon (normally seen in a higher grade than this), Sirenuse (ideal conditions and still unexposed) and Solar Spirit (usually runs his best races first time out).
3.20 - It's slightly off-putting that John Gosden let Jack O'Lantern go after just the one (promising) run, but on the plus side he's joined Richard Fahey, and he'll have too much for this limited lot.
3.50 - The best-handicapped horse all day is Bogside Theatre, having dropped down the weights through 2009, that campaign effectively a write-off, but her recent successful spell hurdling has revealed that all her old enthusiasm and ability is intact, and, put simply, she should win. However, racing is never that easy, and the insurance policy is Outrageous Request, on the up before his break.
4.20 - It's that man Fahey again, and She's In The Money is taken to pick up where she left off last year, the only doubt about her being the ground, having mostly kept to good or firmer.
4.50 - The nagging concern is that this may come a bit quick for Goodlukin Lucy, only eight days on from Doncaster, but that second is so much more than any of the others in the field have achieved, making her a last-leg banker.
