Trappy fields galore, but we're hopeful at Ludlow today
"Kennel Hill is the archetypal odds-on shot which budding Placepotters should endeavour to knock out"
As the naysayers will no doubt jibe, the only thing seemingly more overdue than the arrival of spring is a good jumps result from Timeform's Placepot team. Oh the irony if we could set the record straight on April Fool's Day.
2.30 - A seller which calls for strategy. Likely odds-on shot Perfect Reward made light work of limited opponents last time, and although there's potentially more to come on his second outing for the astute Gary Moore, a short turnaround after an absence of seven months gives incentive to try and nab a sizeable chunk of the pool by getting him out. Much more of a Placepot type is the consistent Jordan's Light, who has run creditably on his last five completed starts, including when runner-up in a similar contest to this in Febraury.
3.00 - There's little point in trying to get the usually sound-jumping Latanier out of the first two. Come to think of it, even if one pulls out to leave the dreaded four our worries should be at a minimum.
3.30 - Despite clearly possessing a useful level of ability, placing as he has three times in graded events this term, Kennel Hill is the archetypal odds-on shot which budding Placepotters should endeavour to knock out; in fact, so ungenuine is Keith Goldsworthy's charge that he sports a double squiggle over fences! There are only two places up for grabs, however, so we'll take both Tannerburg and Sandynow to see us through, the former more established but the latter almost certain to improve for the longer trip.
4.00 - Out of seemingly nowhere, a really competitive handicap comes up to bite us on the derriere. Fear not though, as progressive hurdler/chaser The Snail has been very regular since the autumn and represents a solid choice under a penalty for last week's course-and-distance success. Unexposed pair Soixante and Chance du Roy were put up only 4 lb and 5 lb respectively for winning last time out, both warranting inclusion on that basis.
4.30 - Mon Michel looks a most interesting runner, useful at one stage and hinting as though he's been gradually returning to form on both starts this season, dropping further in the weights all the while. Another precarious field of seven warns against banking though, and Just Rob, who finished one place ahead of Mon Michel in third last time at Stratford, looks fairly solid and not without room for improvement given he's only made the track six times to date.
5.00 - So vast was Prescelli's improvement in a course-and-distance mares' novice last time that she can't be left out, a handicap snip if able to repeat the dose. Unfortunately that "if" is by no means a throwaway, and with rock-solid alternatives thin on the ground our second berth goes to Future Vision, who's clearly got more to come and was probably the victim of circumstance in a stronger contest last time.
