"A horrible finale. There are only seven runners, meaning just the two places, and it’s hard to see where the pace will come from, as such, this will almost certainly be tactical."

With no racing to report (bet) on yesterday it allowed the all-weather team to get their heads together and come up with a good-looking placepot perm for Kempton this afternoon.

2.05 - Not an easy race to assess with the pair who have the best form, namely John Dunlop's Clarietta and the John Gosden-trained Pipette, both returning from absences. However, they both hail from top yards and it would be a major surprise if one of them wasn't able to get us through the first leg.

2.40 - Azizi is a long was clear on Timeform ratings and looks the class act in the field (went off favourite for the Autumn Stakes on his final two-year-old start) so must be included. The son of Haafhd hasn't always looked the most straightforward, however, and as this may also turn into a muddling race, so it is wise to include last weekend's listed winner Classic Colori as back up.

3.15 - Not much strength in depth in this listed race, most of the field no more than glorified handicappers, and it would be a surprise if Chantilly Tiffany didn't go well on her first start for John Gosden. She wasn't at her best last year but has run well both starts on polytrack and is a confident selection. Of the race-fit contenders it may also be worth taking Mosqueras Romance who travelled strongly on her reappearance and hails from a stable in such good form that it wouldn't be the biggest shock if she found the necessary improvement to get involved.

3.50 - A competitive-looking handicap but it may be wise just to side with a pair who have been thriving on this surface all winter and look nailed on to give their running. Bravo Echo travelled strongly when winning last time and should still have more to come given how well thought of he was as a juvenile. The Scorching Wind is excused his latest effort on account of meeting trouble in controversial circumstances a fortnight ago and a return to his best form would see him bang there.

4.20 - A tightly-knit handicap makes for a difficult penultimate leg and, despite looking to have it all on from the widest draw, Admiral Cochrane's consistency makes him difficult to get away from. The William Jarvis-trained three-year-old has only been out the placings once in eight runs on the all-weather and is excused his latest effort on account of not getting the clearest of runs through. Our second selection is Dominium, who has only run twice but has a Timeform 'p' and is thought of as the horse open to the most improvement in the field.

4.55 - A horrible finale. There are only seven runners, meaning just the two places, and it's hard to see where the pace will come from; as such, this will almost certainly be tactical. It's possible to go round and round in circles trying to decipher how the race will be run, but perhaps the best idea is just to bank on Soundbyte who can race prominently, made a promising return last time and will relish the step up in trip.
