It's St Patrick's Day and while most Irish eyes will be on Cheltenham we have come up with three selections for the meetings at Down Royal and Wexford....

The Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle (14:35) at Down Royal isn't an event to set the pulse racing but something has to win it and one could do worse than to have a small interest on Dunroe Boy. A point winner back in November, John Carr's gelding ran easily his best race over hurdles when third to Turnonthegas in a handicap over two and three quarter miles at Punchestown last month and was plainly unsuited by the return to the minimum trip last time. He gets in here off a mark 1 lb lower than the one from which he ran at Punchestown, the experienced Eddie Power takes the ride and Dunroe Boy makes plenty of appeal in a race where there is little recent form on offer.

The New Ross maiden hurdle at 16:05 is the most competitive race on an otherwise uninspiring card at Wexford. There isn't a great deal to choose between Luddenmore, Devil's Bit and Knight Eagle on what they have shown over hurdles, but the last named was easily the pick of the bunch on the Flat and he will be well suited by the drier underfoot conditions. Eoin Doyle's gelding wasn't given a hard time once his chance had gone at Gowran last time and his jumping appears to be getting better with racing.

Knocklayde Euro has been a shade unfortunate on both of his last two starts, in front when unseating three out in the race won by Hidden Crack here and then caught in the very last stride by The Hard Hat at Navan last time, but may be able to gain some deserved compensation in what looks a weak maiden chase at 16:20. The fact that he has failed to complete on both starts at this track is a cause for concern but he jumped soundly at Navan last time and he won't be inconvenienced by the drop down to two miles.

Recommendations:
Down Royal 14:35 - Win and Place Back - Dunroe Boy
Wexford 16:05 - Win Back - Knight Eagle
Down Royal 16:20 - Win Back - Knocklayde Euro
