Iron Major can shed his maiden tag in the 4.30 at Tipperary today
"Ionisphere ended his last Flat campaign on the up when third at Dundalk and has continued to progress over hurdles more recently...He could easily prove ahead of his mark returned to this sphere. "
Timeform's team of Irish experts give you three recommendations for racing in Ireland on Thursday...
Tipperary 4.30 - Win Back - Iron Major
Iron Major can be considered unlucky to still be a maiden having gone down narrowly in all-weather nurseries on his last two starts as a juvenile, while he made a respectable comeback on that surface as well, racing freely when finishing third. It has to be acknowledged that last time was a bit disappointing, and it is a possibility that he's better on polytrack than turf, but he does have by far the best form on offer in this race and could be sharpened up by the fitting of blinkers dropped back to 5f.
Tipperary 5.00 - Place Lay - Trotting Weasel
Trotting Weasel has shown the requisite ability to score off marks in the low 50's on several occasions but has a poor wins-to-runs ratio in spite of that, and is much more consistent at Dundalk than anywhere else. A tricky ride for a young jockey (often held up), he looks worth opposing on balance.
Tipperary 7.00 - Win Back - Ionisphere
This isn't the sort of race to betting in normally, a run-of-the-mill handicap in which a cogent case can be made for plenty of the runners. However, Ionisphere ended his last Flat campaign on the up when third at Dundalk and has continued to progress over hurdles more recently, taking a maiden at Fairyhouse in February despite some indifferent jumping. He could easily prove ahead of his mark returned to this sphere.
