Sizing Europe looks worth opposing as he makes his seasonal return at Punchestown
"Joanna Morgan's charge [Mutadarek] has left the firm impression that a return to his best is just around the corner on his last two starts, keeping on for mainly hand riding from some way back both times, and will be well suited by this return to two and a half miles".
Three selections over the jumps at Punchestown.....
Inspector Clouseau (14:45) has proven something of a disappointment over hurdles so far, his best effort when fourth at Ballinrobe last month coming in a race that was steadily run and beaten a long way from home when only ninth at Tipperary last time (tongue tied), his jumping still by no means fluent. He faces plenty of competition in the opening maiden, with Start Me Up, who should be sharper for his pipe-opener at Roscommon, setting a high standard after making the frame in graded races last term. The line-up also features Prima Vista, back after making a positive impression on all three starts last term (once in a bumper), and the in-form pair of Bachelor Lad and Ross Limestone, so Inspector Clouseau could just be worth taking on for a place at the likely odds.
Kaiser So Say and Kayanna's Back warrant respect in the handicap hurdle (15:45) after securing wide-margin victories last time, at Downpatrick and Clonmel respectively, but those much-improved efforts are likely to be reflected in their prices and the chances are that they'll both need to progress again if they are to take the measure of Mutadarek in any case. Joanna Morgan's charge has left the firm impression that a return to his best is just around the corner on his last two starts, keeping on for mainly hand riding from some way back both times, and will be well suited by this return to two and a half miles.
Sizing Europe is undoubtedly the class act in the 16:45 having won his first five races over fences last term, including the Arkle at Cheltenham in March, before rounding off the campaign when third in another Grade 1 at Punchestown the following month, that one coming in open company. However, he has never really appealed as the sort who will be suited by trips in excess of two and a half miles, his high cruising speed being one of major assets, and his opposition includes a match-fit China Rock, who seems unlikely to be far behind the top chasers in Ireland this term, as well as the talented Siegemaster, who will definitely stay and shouldn't have his jumping taxed unduly by this small field, so Sizing Europe has the makings of a good lay bet at the likely short odds.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Place lay Inspector Clouseau - Punchestown 14:45
Back Mutadarek - Punchestown 15:45
Lay Sizing Europe - Punchestown 16:45
