Sir Gerry: Crosses the Irish Sea again to contest the listed sprint at Cork
"Backing Monteriggioni straight win is a risky proposition given his propensity to idle once hitting the front, but as a place bet there is plenty to recommend him"
Timeform's team of Irish form experts give you three recommendations for today's racing at Cork...
5.30 Cork- Ruby Suesday - win back
Ruby Suesday showed speed was her primary asset in three runs at two years, notably when second to future listed winner Velvet Flicker in a minor event over this course and distance in October. She starts off in handicaps in a run-of-the-mill event and on a tidy mark given how some of her form reads, and has a good draw to boot.
6.30 Cork - Marinebird - place lay
Marinebird has quite a good draw to adopt her typical forcing tactics and does boast form on a sound surface, while her fourth at Tipperary on her return was a respectable effort. However, she's shown her form infrequently in past couple of seasons and faces opposition for the lead here, so looks worth opposing on balance.
7.30 Cork - Monteriggioni - place back
Backing Monteriggioni straight win is a risky proposition given his propensity to idle once hitting the front, but as a place bet there is plenty to recommend him. He has finally been given some respite from the handicapper, boasts a good record fresh and has the assistance of Fran Berry in the saddle. The only potential downside is that he's in a fairly competitive race, but his price should reflect that and a place bet is worth the risk.
