Will Nicky Henderson finally train a winner in the Grand National in the form of Shakalakaboomboom?
"However, the long wait could be over as we have seen a significant market move for the brilliantly named Shakalakaboomboom moving from [26.0] in to [17.5]. This has been the plan for a while and he was given a nice sharpener over hurdles last time out at Warwick. There are plenty of clues in his previous form to suggest that this unique test may well suit."
Two backs and one lay from the Follow The Money crew, with all eyes on Shakalakaboomboom to come good in the Grand National.
Welcome to the Betfair Movers line for Saturday 14th April. Today's movers are from the cards at Aintree and Lingfield.
We start off today's Follow The Money at Aintree in the 15:25 Handicap Chase where we have seen confidence in the market for Paul Nicholls' Chapoturgeon, who has moved from [5.5] in to [3.65]. A quality win in a Newbury Hunter Chase in January, where he beat yesterday's winner Cloudy Lane by 16 lengths, was followed by an equally good performance in the Foxhunters at Cheltenham, where he finished second by just a length. This suggests that he is in excellent form, and having Ruby Walsh on board is obviously a big plus for his chances. Punters have latched on, and will be trying to fill up their wallets before the big one...
40 runners, 30 fences, a 4 ½ mile marathon trip... Yes it's the Grand National (Aintree 16:15)! The oft-used line is that the first ever winner of the National, back in 1839, was a horse called Lottery, and that's how many people view the race. However, the National doesn't appear to be quite as stern a test as it undoubtedly was back then, with plenty of safety modifications in recent years. This year's renewal is full of quality performers too. Gold Cup hero Synchronised will be many people's idea of the winner, despite carrying top weight, with AP McCoy on board hoping for his second win in the race. We also have two former winners in the shape of sensational 2009 winner Mon Mome, and last year's victor for Donald McCain, Ballabriggs. Master trainer Nicky Henderson has never won this race in an extraordinary training career. However, the long wait could be over as we have seen a significant market move for the brilliantly named Shakalakaboomboom moving from [26.0] in to [17.5]. This has been the plan for a while and he was given a nice sharpener over hurdles last time out at Warwick. There are plenty of clues in his previous form to suggest that this unique test may well suit. He has coped in the rough and tumble of a big field, finishing first of 24 runners at Punchestown over 3 miles 1f on good to soft ground last May. He also beat some decent types at Cheltenham in December so the talent is there. Nicky Henderson has been in supreme form of late, with a record breaking seven winners at Cheltenham and two winners here yesterday in his battle with Paul Nicholls for the trainer's title. This could well decide it. Remember of course that we Betfair are also offering extra place markets on the race with the first 4, 5 and 10 to be placed available, if punting in the win market doesn't take your fancy. Good luck.
Our lay of the day can be found in the 16:45 7f Maiden at Lingfield where Sandbetweenourtoes has drifted from an early [2.60] out to [3.65]. At the same time Bartolomeu has been backed from odds against to a shade of odds on, which suggests that the market has spoken in favour of the latter today.
That's all for today. Good luck to all.
