Mike de Kock: Trainer of Mahbooba.
"This looks an obvious opportunity for Mahbooba to follow up her recent win at this track"
Timeform take a look at the feature race on Friday's card at Meydan, the Group 2 Cape Verdi Stakes for fillies and mares over a mile...
First City rarely ran a bad race for David Simcock last year, running particularly well when placed in the Windsor Forest and Falmouth Stakes. Looks the one to give Mahbooba most to think about.
Al Sharood won a minor event for John Hammond in France last year before making a successful debut for this yard in a similar event at Meydan. Needs to build on that in this more competitive race.
Reem won a couple at Meydan early last year before finishing well held in the UAE Derby. Struggled in Britain susbsequently and showed nothing on recent return so best watched for now.
Hurricane Havoc was kept busy in 2011, winning just once in a minor event at Navan. Runner-up 3 times in listed company afterwards and a place is probably the best she can hope for in this.
Sooraah progressed from a handicapper to a genuine listed performer last year, winning at Ascot. Good efforts after, including when second to Clinical at Lingfield last time and has place claims.
Marvada did little wrong in 2011, winning 3 times. Improved again when in frame on last 2 outings but will need to continue going the right way to feature.
Mahbooba won the UAE 1000 Guineas last season as well as a listed contest at Newmarket. Returned better than ever when running away with a minor event at Meydan and very much the one to beat here.
Rhythm of Light was much improved in 2011, readily landing a handicap at Newbury before taking the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot. Back to best when second in Turkey last time and should go well.
Timeform 1-2-3:
1. Mahbooba
2. First City
3.. Rhythm of Light
Timeform View: This looks an obvious opportunity for Mahbooba to follow up her recent win at this track, the only slight negative being the drop in trip. First City and Rhythm Of Light are the pair most likely to take advantage should the selection fail to meet expectations.
