Henry Cecil - his promising Frankel will hopefully see us home in the last leg
"this (the 4.25) looks a straight shootout between Frankel and Farhh, who both created an excellent impression when winning Newmarket maidens on debut. We’ll have to bank to keep lines manageable, however, and will opt for Henry Cecil’s Frankel, but if you want to take the other (or both), then that’s up to you."
Hopefully today's Doncaster placepot will pay more than yesterday's £10.60...
1.35 - The Hannon team hasn't been as all-conquering in juvenile races of late as at one stage, enough reason to take Zebedee on in the opener, and there isn't actually as much depth as the numbers suggest, either. Queen Mary runner-up Meow is very fast and will be in the firing line throughout, which might also bring a couple of those held up into it, hopefully including Dinkum Diamond, who had excuses at Ascot (bad position) and York (taking on elders).
2.05 - A typically competitive Mallard field, but most are exposed and it might not be the puzzle it looks. Mount Athos had more in hand than the bare margin when winning the Melrose at York (hung right) and should give another good account for all he's been hiked another 11 lb, and, if he's interesting, then so too is Zuider Zee, fourth at York despite not having a smooth race and progressive before that. Fortuni isn't an ideal placepot horse, having bombed out in the Ebor, but such is the stable form that it's worth taking a chance on him as the third selection.
2.40 - Opinion Poll doesn't need testing ground, whatever connections say, as his ledger tells us otherwise, four of his six wins gained on good. He was close to being a banker, but it was too hard to leave Electrolyser out at this trip, as it's almost certainly going to suit for all he failed to give his running in last year's Cesarewitch.
3.15 - Sweet Solera winner White Moonstone is so far in advance of her rivals on what they have achieved to date that she has to go in, but with just seven runners and, consequently two places, Sonning Rose also makes the cut, on the grounds that she has better form than Midnight Caller, if not quite the same potential, and she'll be suited by a mile judged by her latest effort behind Theyskens' Theory at Goodwood.
3.50 - There's a good chance they'll split in this, so take a few from all across the track. Citrus Star (drawn 8) has an obvious favourite's chance on the back of his Goodwood win and will be coming through late on the far side, hopefully with Flipando (6), while at the same time Damien (13), who should be well suited by the extra distance, and Mr David (18) - has more potential than most - will be doing the same nearer the stand rail.
4.25 - John Gosden's Rainbow Springs will have to be something special to win on debut and Diamond Geezah is fairly exposed, so this looks a straight shootout between Frankel and Farhh, who both created an excellent impression when winning Newmarket maidens on debut. We'll have to bank to keep lines manageable, however, and will opt for Henry Cecil's Frankel, but if you want to take the other (or both), then that's up to you.
