Carl Harris makes his picks from a promising day of racing across the UK...

Kitewood got things off to a winning start on Thursday, a great ride by Dettori, to continue our good run.

Friday is a really good day with racing taking place at most of the UK's best courses. No doubt about the race of the day, which is firmly the July Cup at Newmarket which even by group one standard's is excellent.

There are many interesting angles not least the inclusion of Paco Boy who will prove what an outstanding horse he is by winning over six furlongs but I am firmly on Scenic Blast (3.10) who showed his class in the Kings Stand by winning with a devastating turn of foot. There are several group one winners in opposition, there is class all through the card, but I rate him as the best sprinter in the field and he can confirm that with a win in the British leg of the Global Sprint Challenge.

At York the big race is the group 3 Summer stakes for fillies which has the look of a higher grade race. It boils down to two fillies who ran with credit at group one level last time in Lesson in Humility and Serious Attitude (2.45). Rae Guest is obviously of the view that Serious Attitude is a sprinter but she ran well in the 1000 Guineas, finishing seventh. She benefits from a handy weight for age allowance that could be decisive and is taken to win this decent prize at York.

I also like Whispering Gallery (3.55) who also gets a handy weight allowance and won really well on his debut. I think this horse could be very decent and I am sure his mark of 95 will not anchor him, certainly with the allowance he is my bet of the day and I suspect it may be worth taking the early prices as I am sure he will be well supported.
