Carl Harris is off to the North West to follow the fortunes of today's tips...
I was glad to get one on the board with Mirrored to end a bit of a bad spell. Looking forward the weekend will be a cracker with The Temple Stakes at Haydock and no fewer than 3 Group 1 races at The Curragh, including the Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas to enjoy. But we have to get through today first!
The handicapping of horses is better now than it ever has been, so finding horses that are well handicapped is not easy. However, there are a couple today that will do very nicely. Open Sesame (8.50) at Haydock reappears quickly under a 6lb penalty after winning very easily last week at Newmarket. He won by 3 ½ lengths despite being slowly into stride and there looks to be much more to come for Peter Chapple-Hyam's three-year-old. This is definitely one to be on today and is my best bet of the day.
Also at Haydock, David Barron saddles Ingleby Lady (7.20) for the first time in a handicap following a good win last month in a Pontefract Maiden. That was her racecourse debut which saw her prevail by almost three lengths in which to be fair was a pretty average contest. That said the filly could hardly have done it in better style. Having been held up behind she found herself short of room but when switched wide had a turn of foot that saw her quickly pull away from the field. They say a very good horse wins first time out, lets hope that proves to be the case with Ingleby Lady.
The handicapper has awarded her a mark of 80 which she can defy on ground which her breeding suggests will actually be a positive. There is no suggestion that this filly is a world beater but off this mark, in this race, I think we may have found a well handicapped horse worth an investment .
