Daily Racing Tips: Waffle looks a sweet bet to me

Carl didn't have a particularly great day at York yesterday but today's new a day and Waffle can provide him with a breakfast of champions...
Not a great start on day one at York, although Tax Free was placed which limited the damage somewhat. Sariska looked a very decent filly in The Musidora, the further she went the better she looked and is the best we have seen for The Oaks so far.
We now turn our thoughts to The Derby with The Dante Stakes (2.40) being the premier Epsom trial. Crowded House is a proven performer having won the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy as a 2 year-old which is the best form in the race by far. The reports from Manton have been good but now he has to show he has trained on and is as good at 3 as he was last year. Crowded House is taking the same route to Epsom as Authorized did in 2007 and a convincing win will rocket him back to Derby favourite. Crowded House is the one they have to beat and I hope he puts in a good performance to set up a Derby Clash with Fame and Glory who set the standard when impressively winning Ireland's equivalent of the Dante Stakes.
My dark horse for the Derby is Redwood, he really is a dark horse at this stage because he is not actually entered in the race. The owner will always supplement a worthy colt, as he did with Doctor Fremantle last year. I have taken [120.0] on it for the Derby so I will be hoping that the good form of the Hills Stable continues today. I will be backing Redwood each-way but I do think Crowded House will win.
The Group 3 Middleton Stakes (2.10) looks a match between the prolific Crystal Capella and Dar Re Mi, a proven Group Class performer. There is no doubting that the Stoute filly is improving but this is a favourites race with 4 of the last 6 having won. Da Re Mi should win for Lord Lloyd-Webber who may have to make do with a Group 3 rather than a Eurovision winner's trophy! Sadly she will not be much of a price given the weakness of the competition and is one for those who do not mind taking odds-on prices. It is a shame that the race has not attracted a better entry given the £65,000 prize fund.
The best bet of the day, for me, is Waffle (3,45) who was second in a Group 3 last time to Amour Propre, who has since won the Palace House Stakes (Group 3) this season. Waffle is the best bet of the day dropping down in class. I think this one will be very well supported so I have taken the early price of [3.]3. Frankie Dettori rides for Jeremy Nosdeda and the more I look at this race the more I like Waffle. I will avoid the obvious jokes about my Waffling but I do hope that it is not Waffle that we hear by way of excuses after the race!
Thursday's best bets
2.40 York - Crowded House - Win
3.45 York - Waffle - Win
