Get Angus Newz at Ripon... Carl Harris is off to Yorkshire to follow the fortunes of a filly back to her best...

Gosh! After three great days at York and then Newbury and Newmarket it is a back down to earth today with three pretty moderate meetings at Ripon, Market Rasen and Fakenham. The highlight of the day, for me, will be seeing Goldikova (3.20) make her seasonal reappearance at Longchamp. She was last seen when winning The Breeders Cup Turd at Santa Anita in October and her form will see to it that she is not much of a price but she is a super-star filly. I will instead look closer to home today for a filly to back today.

Angus Newz, in the 3.40 at Ripon, is as speedy as she is game and has been running like she will win again soon. Mick Quinn sends his star filly up to Yorkshire for a race in which she finished third last year and won in 2007. Although she has not won since last September her latest outing at Chester indicated she was back to her best and she could deliver today.

The handicapper has raised her 5lbs for that run behind Sohraab and Strike Up the Band but she has won off a higher mark and had some good horses in behind at Chester. Taking on her own sex, on a course where Angus Newz has a good record, I will take her each-way. She has very quick early speed and I am hoping they do not get to her. I recommend backing Angus Newz both Win and Place.

Angus Newz is my best and only bet of the day.
