It's evening racing and a potential double for Carl Harris...
I was amazed at the drift yesterday of American Art, and even more amazed by the in-running prices being laid in the early stages of the race. Despite the absolute lack of confidence American Art ran out a nice winner.
I will be sticking with jumping today at Hexham, the picturesque Northumberland track which is like the Arctic in winter yet gorgeous in the summer. The going is good to firm, but I am confident that this will be in our favour.
There are two horses that take the eye, both of whom were winners last time out. The first is Harry Flashman (7.35) who steps up in trip after an impressive win here last time out, turning over a long odds-on favourite in the process. The trip will certainly not be a problem, he was second over course and distance on his penultimate start. Clearly he likes Hexham, three career runs have yielded two wins and a second.
I think Harry Flashman has the beating of his rivals in this novice hurdle race but Michael Hourigan always deserves respect, especially when sending horses over to England and Toby Jug would be the only worry. The ground will certainly pose no problems and his regular jockey is aboard again today.
Graze On and On (8.05) should complete a quick double for us, in the next race. John Quinn is running this four-year-old quickly following a good win last week at Towcester. That was a conditional riders' race so she escapes a penalty and should prove to be a well handicapped horse tonight. She is stepping up in trip but gave the impression, up the Towcester hill, that she is a stout stayer. With the yard in good form and Dougie Costello resuming riding duties all looks set fair for Graze On and On to complete her hat-trick. The ground is ideal for this filly who I make my bet of the day.
Todays Bets...
7.35 Hexham - Harry Flashman - Win @ [2.74]
8.05 Hexham - Graze On and On - Win @ [3.4]
