Carl Harris makes his picks from the Saturday spread...
Serious Attitude was a nice price winner for us on Friday, but Scenic Blast looked short of power and went out with a whimper, never getting in to the July Cup, won well by Fleeting Spirit.
There is a good spread of racing with top class action Chester, Ascot and York, where the John Smith's Cup looks a really difficult puzzle to solve. I always like to look out for connections who do well at the track. Frankie Dettori and Godolphin fit the bill perfectly with Moonquake (3.10) who looks a rock solid each-way proposition.
Moonquake was a good course and distance winner in May then was just edged out at Royal Ascot, a defeat the handicapper has sympathised with leaving him on the same mark. The price is huge and I will be on win and place in this 20 runner field.
The Summer Stakes looks tailored made for Cesare (2.50) who loves Ascot, boasting no fewer than five course and distance wins. Last time out he was second to Paco Boy in a group one, a reproduction of which will see him enhance those impressive track statistics. Jamie Spencer gets on very well with the old boy, having been aboard on four of his five victories, and I think Cesare is an excellent bet, the best of the day.
The City Wall Stakes at Chester should go to class dropper Borderlescott (3.30) who is tough, consistent and performs best at this time of year. Having had horses with Robin Bastiman, winning horses, I can tell you that he is an excellent trainer and will have his stable star primed to the minute. They have found an excellent pilot in Pat Cosgrave, who knows the sprinter well and they should win this listed contest, at better odds than I anticipated.
A good day will certainly be a great one with a few winners!
Saturdays Best Bets:
2.50 Ascot- Cesare, win @ [3.7]
3.10 York- Moonquake, win and place @ [14.5]
3.30 Chester- Borderlescott, win @ [3.25]
