Carl Harris has a pair of bets from the West Sussex track...
Despite there being eight meetings, including the two in Ireland to attack, Friday has a tricky feel to it. I will be focusing exclusively on the Goodwood card where I think, as last night, there may be a bit of value for Betfair backers.
Seneschal (5.15) has been in very good form, notching up three wins from his last four starts for the in-form Andy Haynes yard. The trainer boasts a 33 per cent strike rate with six winners from 18 starts in the last two weeks and could further enhance those statistics with Seneschal. Richard Hughes takes the ride but will have to overcome a six pounds rise in the weights which was the gelding's reward for a couple of wins in handicaps achieved only 48 hours apart. I would recommend backing Seneschal in both the win and place markets as he is sure to figure at the business end. Looking at the market, I think you will certainly be getting value in both markets.
I have not seen many horses defy a 12 pounds penalty which is exactly what Global (3.35) seeks to do today. When I initially looked at the card I thought this was a definite lay, but having dissected the form I am of the complete opposite view. I think Global can win under the monster penalty again in what looks a pretty moderate handicap. This will be the first time I have backed a horse under a double penalty and hopefully it will not be the last!
Today's Bets...
3.35 Goodwood - Global @ [2.4] win
5.15 Goodwood - Seneschal @ [9.4] win and place
