Carl Harris turns to Longchamp and Leopardstown today in search of winners.

As Meat Loaf once said, two out of three 'aint bad, which sums up yesterday. Duncan ran out a facile winner and Age of Aquarius ground out a win in The Lingfield Derby Trial. I would not be rushing to back anything from that race for The Derby, but today could be a different story.

Ireland's premier Derby Trial is run at Leopardstown (3:55) where Aidan O'Brien saddles the unbeaten Fame And Glory who was mightily impressive when winning the Ballysax Stakes. The unbeaten son of Montjeu is reported to be the colt that most excites the Ballydoyle team and is currently second favourite for The Derby [7.6]

An impressive win today will see that price shorten considerably, closer to that of current favourite Sea The Stars, a half brother to Galileo. Aidan O'Brien trained Galileo to Derby success in 2001 and is taking the same route to Epsom with Fame and Glory as he did with both Galileo and High Chaparral.

Surely this provides clarification that Fame and Glory is Ballydoyle's leading Derby contender and is fully expected to win today authoritatively. If Fame and Glory reproduces the turn of foot he displayed last time then he should do just that.

Fantasia was the impressive winner of the Nell Gwyn stakes but the owners decided not to run her against their other filly Rainbow View in the 1000 Guineas, opting for the French Equivalent today at Longchamp (3.00).

Frankie Dettori takes the ride, which is a huge positive, because not only does he know the filly well, he also has an excellent record at the Paris track think Fantasia will prove to be a better filly than Rainbow View, in the long term and will land this Group 1 contest today. Fantasia is my best bet for the day.

The best of the action takes place in Ireland and France today and I wonder why Sundays in the UK offer only moderate cards by comparison.

Todays Bets

4.0 Longchamp - Fantasia Win (Bet of the Day)
3.55 Leopardstown - Fame and Glory Win
