It's a pair of Chester runners for Carl Harris today...

Last year Doctor Fremantle (2.15) landed the Chester Vase on this card, which was the last time he actually won. But, since that day on the Roodee Sir Michael Stoute has campaigned the good doctor at the highest level, competing him in three Group Ones of which two were classics. Today's Group 3 Huxley Stakes looks an ideal opportunity to get back on the winning trail and could be the ideal stepping stone to bigger prizes later in the season.

On official ratings Doctor Fremantle is the best horse in the race but Expresso Star looks a big improver and is definitely the danger. John Gosden must be confident that Expresso is indeed a Star, stepping up the Lincoln winner in both class and distance. Doctor Freemantle is a Group One performer dropping in class, a formula of which I am a big advocate! What is Solo Choice, a 68 rated maiden doing running in this race? The BHA need to stop this practice before a no hoper ruins the chances of a genuine contender.

At [2.8] I think Doctor Fremantle is an excellent bet and should show his Group 1 class on a course which suits. Doctor Fremantle is my best bet of the day.

Barry Hill's record at Chester is simply staggering and I have been kicking myself since passing over Daarhem in yesterday's Chester Cup. Fortunately there is no Hill's runner in the Huxley Stakes, but he runs Above Average in the Chester Vase (2.45).

Above Average is better than his name suggests, but I think that this may be a much tougher task than the Sandown Derby trial in which he scrambled home. The one I like in the Vase is John Gosden's Debussy who won the Blue Riband Derby Trial at Epsom and will shorten in The Derby market if, which I think he will, wins today.

I am hoping that passing over another Barry Hills runner is not another mistake!

Todays Bets:

2.15, Chester, Doctor Fremantle, Win (Bet of the Day)

2.45, Chester, Debussy, Win
