Carl Harris is looking at the action at The Curragh as the Irish 1,000 Guineas takes centre stage in the racing calendar.

Ingleby Lady (5.15) was due to run at Haydock on Friday but was withdrawn in favour of Newmarket, presumably in search of better ground. It is the first time in a handicap following a good win last month in a Pontefract Maiden. That was her racecourse debut which saw her prevail by almost three lengths in a race which, to be fair, was a pretty average contest. That said, the filly could hardly have done it in better style. Having been held up behind she found herself short of room but, when switched wide, showed a turn of foot that saw her winning going away.

The handicapper has awarded her a mark of 80 which she can defy on ground similar to that on which she won. The stable are in great form and Ingleby Lady looks worth backing today.

Once again the best of the action is at The Curragh today with the Irish 1,000 Guineas (3.40) and the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup (3.05). The ground will be the key, as it was yesterday in Ireland, and for that reason the Gold Cup is too close to call. If the ground was good I would advise Lush Lashes but it is a watching brief for me.

It may be double frustration for Jim Bolger as Cuis Gharie (3.40) looks to go one better than the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas in which she was second. This filly has only raced on heavy going once and was comprehensively beaten. She has raced six times and has only been out of the first two once, clearly she does not handle the ground and is one to lay, if she runs.

Again won that race at Leopardstown on heavy ground and clearly relishes the going. She has not raced since last year and she did not give her running on her final start in France, but may have had a long season. On the ground she could string the field out and is the one I will be backing.

Todays Bets...
3.40 Curragh - Cuis Ghaire Lay @ [8.6]
3.40 Curragh - Again - Win @ [3.9]
5.15 Newmarket - Ingleby Lady - Win @ [3.55]
