Dettori is the pilot for both of Carl Harris' Thursday selections...
Copperbeech (4.00) at Goodwood looks the class act in this Oaks trial. Not seen since running a close third in the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac last season she takes a significant drop in class. The obvious concern is the form of the Godolphin stable but the last 14 days has seen a marked improvement with a 23% strike rate easing worries in that department.
I am not suggesting that Copperbeech will be an Oaks filly but the relative form of her rivals in this Height of Fashion Listed contest should see Frankie Dettori bring home the filly clear of the field and get back yesterday's losses. Dettori has only one ride at Goodwood and should leave with a winner under his belt.
Frankie then rides at Sandown in the evening where he has a very nice book of rides which include two live chances for Sir Michael Stoute.
With Ryan Moore out of action Stoute turns to Dettori, and together they boast a 35% strike rate over the past five years. The pair enjoyed classic success when wining the St Leger and could enhance those statistics further today with Mirrored (6.50) and The Fonz (7.25). Both horses were winners last time out and both have the typical progressive profile of so many horses from this stable.
The one that interests me most of the pair is Mirrored (6.50). Although he was still a maiden his trainer ran him in a handicap at Kempton, from a mark of 75, which he won in commanding style, his reward for which is a 7lbs hike in the weights. Sir Michael is a past master at maximising the number of wins in handicaps from his good horses and this Dansili Colt looks like he could be a lot better than his handicap mark. I am making Mirrored my best bet of the day.
I hope things go to plan today and I can put yesterday's disaster behind me.
Todays Bets...
4.00 Goodwood - Copperbeech - Win @ [2.48]
6.50 Sandown - Mirrored - Win @ [2.62] (Bet of the Day)
