"While Place That Face and Sannibel are no world beaters, both have shown they are capable of winning a modest maiden such as today’s..."
"Jumpers' Bumpers" at Kempton and a three-runner race at Southwell mean Timeform's Adam Brookes looks to Wolverhampton for today's recommended placepot permutation...
17:10 - No Mean Trick is likely to be popular judged on his recent form figures but he's bottom of the eight on Timeform weight-adjusted ratings, so he's taken on with Novabridge, who added to the good form of the Neil Mulholland yard with a win in a similar event over course and distance on Saturday. For all that she doesn't win very often, hold-up performer Slatey Hen (one of two wins came at the track) is also taken in anticipation of their being plenty of pace on.
17:40 - The absence of Michael's Nook leaves the path a bit clearer for last month's course-and-distance scorer Consistant, who is likely to travel well under Adam Kirby and can hopefully live up to his misspelt name. It would be no surprise if Athaakeel went well for highly promising apprentice Darren Edward Egan but her attitude and wide draw temper enthusiasm, and Dunmore Boy (won track handicap off just 1 lb lower BHA rating in November 2010) is given the reserve spot with the Richard Fahey all-weather team largely running with credit.
18:10 - While Place That Face and Sannibel are no world beaters, both have shown they are capable of winning a modest maiden such as today's. However, with the latter having run well below form twice from five starts, it is Hughie Morrison's filly that is preferred with the return to six furlongs a plus.
18:40 - The fourth leg is an intriguing handicap owing to the presence of two hurdle winners in Bocamix and Painted Sky who are having their first Flat outings in three and a half and two years respectively. Although both have been in form over jumps on their most recent starts, it could be sensible to look elsewhere for placepot purposes, with Rocky Rebel (has improved since joining current yard and one of only two rides for Philip Makin today) and Cadgers Brig (course-and-distance winner who gets on well with Joe Fanning) the two that make most appeal.
19:10 - The jockey booking on Royal Opera is intriguing but he was well below form on his only start at the track and shaped as if his stamina ran out over today's trip at Catterick when last seen on the level. The impeccably-bred Queen of Denmark won an 11f Kempton maiden readily on her debut and is given the chance to improve, while Mazij has been in such good form on the all-weather since October that she's a very worthy back-up selection.
19:40 - Although both of Captivity's standout efforts have come at the track, he looks one to be against at a short price having touched an in-running low of [1.44] (BSP [3.07]) when getting beat a week ago. Current betting suggests that the already-gelded Munificence is the first string from the Marco Botti yard, while Time To Dance is a half-brother to fairly useful polytrack winner Dream Desert and only has a length to make up on the Mark Johnston runner from last time.
Selections:
17:10 - 2, 7
17:40 - 2, 8
18:10 - 8
18:40 - 7, 9
19:10 - 5, 6
19:40 - 4, 5
