Southwell's fibresand is the venue for Thursday's placepot
"Cape Safari looks the best option in the last, having already proved herself on the fibresand."
Timeform's Joe Szekeres puts forward a placepot permutation at Southwell racecourse today...
14:10 - Mazovian produced a career-best when running out a convincing winner at the track last week, pulling six lengths clear of rivals in the closing stages, and she looks good value again despite the 6 lb penalty she picked up as a result. Monte Cassino is probably the main danger given his course and distance form and we'll take the pair to make the frame.
14:40 - It is arguable that course form comes into play at Southwell more so than any other track in Britain and it's hard to look beyond seven-time track winner Mcconnell in the second leg. The seven-year-old is top on Timeform ratings and should definitely be in the shake-up. Unfortunately there are just the four runners though so we're also going to take Trans Sonic, who looks the most likely danger.
15:10 - Overrule has been given a fair bit of slack by the handicapper in recent weeks and at today's weights can go close having done well at the course of late. A solid-looking second last time looks just about the pick of the form and Overrule is banker material in the third leg.
15:40 - Aaman showed himself to be as good as ever when finishing second at the track last time, having had eight months off, and he should be able to go very close again if able to avoid the dreaded 'bounce' factor. That is no guarantee, however, so we're also going to take Three White Socks, who may well improve for first time cheekpieces this afternoon.
16:10 - Colour Guard ran out the impressive winner of a Southwell maiden over seven furlongs last time and he looks sure to progress on just his second start. The step up in trip to a mile is also likely to bring about improvement and it would be a big shock if he were to not feature amongst the first three in what, admittedly, does look a relatively strong race. He's the second banker on card where it may pay to keep the lines down.
16:40 - Cape Safari looks the best option in the last, having already proved herself on fibresand. It would be a shame to bomb out in the final leg should we get this far though, so we're also going to take Gabrial's Lexi, one who looks open to progression if taking to the surface.
Selections:
14:10 - 1, 8
14:40 - 1, 4
15:10 - 3
15:40 - 3, 6
16:10 - 7
16:40 - 3, 4
