Kempton Placepot: Monday January 28

The Placepot action comes from Kempton today

Batchworth Lady built on a promising debut effort to finish second here earlier in the month and, though she will need to step up again, further improvement could be on the cards...

We're back on the all-weather today due to Plumpton being abandoned, and it is Kempton's meeting that is the focus of today's attempt at the Placepot...

13:20- It is perhaps slightly disappointing that Derwentwater has failed to win yet, but he actually ran his best race to date at Lingfield last week, finishing second for the third time in succession. John Gosden's gelding is evidently in good heart at present and should be on the premises.

13:50- Robert Tart has already made a bit of a name for himself on the all-weather this winter and his useful 7 lb claim is just another positive in favour of Diplomatic. The eight-year-old was only beaten by a nose over this c&d last time, finishing strongly having been dropped out further back than ideal, and can make a bold bid to go one better. Shauna's Spirit also has to be of interest following a career-best effort in victory last time and, though given a hefty rise in the weights, ought to give another good account.

14:20- Clock Opera brings the best form to the table, but she did spurn a decent opportunity at Wolverhampton a few weeks ago and siding with Batchworth Lady could prove to be a better option. Dean Ivory's filly built on a promising debut effort to finish second here earlier in the month and, though she will need to step up again, further improvement could be on the cards.

14:50- Returning from a break, Lady of Burgundy makes plenty of appeal with her yard in good form. She may only have a Ffos Las maiden win to her name but she is starting to look well treated and could surprise a few. It is also worth including Roman Senate who ran right up to his best on a return from a three-month break at this venue last time.

15:20- An unappealing race with plenty arriving out of form; it could be worth taking on those towards the head of the market in the hope of a Placepot-busting result. Hill of Dreams may have disappointed on her latest start in December, but she had encouragingly strung together a couple of decent efforts prior to that, noticeably when finishing second on her penultimate start, and is worth taking a chance on. Nolecce is another that needs to bounce back from a poor effort, but he is worth including with Phillip Prince claiming a valuable 7 lb. Finally, in a race that may not take much winning, we will add Boston Blue to the mix despite him coming here on the back of three poor efforts. Consequently he is well handicapped on old form and with his yard going well may surprise a few.

15:50- Hidden Link seemed to relish the step up in distance on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton last time and this slightly longer trip may even see him in a better light. A 3 lb rise for that victory looks more than fair and he can hopefully secure the Placepot spoils.
