Today's placepot attempt is at Doncaster
"Eton Forever should be a clear favourite for the mile handicap in my opinion. His form in the Spring Mile has been boosted several times since and he acquitted himself well despite seeming to struggle with the track when fifth in the Hunt Cup"
The final classic meeting of the season is the target for today's placepot...
14:05 - Entifaadha can be opposed in the Champagne Stakes give he'll likely take out such a large chunk of the pool, particularly with Red Duke on hand to make amends for his luckless run in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood last time. Of the others, Al Khan looks the one open to most improvement, so he goes in, too.
14:35 - The progressive York Glory is a 'no brainer' for the Portland handicap but otherwise it's tricky. I've taken the view that the front runners might just go too hard, so in form hold-up horses Joe Packet and Dungannon are also on side.
15:10 - I'm going to keep it simple in the St Leger. Sea Moon and Blue Bunting have comfortably the best form and it's very difficult to see them out of the three, both yet to run a bad race in their relatively short careers.
15:45 - Eton Forever should be a clear favourite for the mile handicap in my opinion. His form in the Spring Mile has been boosted several times since and he acquitted himself well despite seeming to struggle with the track when fifth in the Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot. Freshened up by a break, I think he's bound to run a big race, but it's also worth including the consistent Sooraah as a bit of insurance.
16:15 - The Cheka regularly gives his running in pattern company and Premio Loco's yard are flying at the minute. Given that pair have the best form and are more than likely to be on their game, it's difficult to envisage them both failing to make the first two.
16:50 - Anjaz beat another very good propect Albamara (won very easily at Epsom next time) when making a winning start to his career and it would be a surprise if he wasn't ahead of an initial mark of 82. He's the first selection in the nursery and is accompanied by Amazing Storm, who's been vastly progressive up to now and is only 2 lb higher than when winning what's proved a strong race at Newmarket late last month.
Selections
14:05 - 1, 2
14:35 - 8, 13, 20
15:10 - 6, 8
15:45 - 3, 5
16:15 - 4, 5
16:50 - 2, 6
