Carl is focusing on the top class action at Santa Anita where he brings you a trio of bets

Firstly, many thanks for all the messages, it has been a good week and Hellbender's price yesterday was simply sensational ([14.0]) and it won well. That has certainly made the week and what a weekend we have in store both here and in the USA.

After Bonfire Night it is time for the proper fireworks with the kick -off of the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. I will be focusing on this instead of Wolverhampton, Fontwell, Southwell and Hexham. The US cards are of seriously good quality and it could be a good weekend for the Europeans who are there in strength following a successful meeting in 2008.

It all kicks off with the Breeders' Cup Marathon at 20:35. When you say Marathon you think of a long distance, its actually a race over 1m 6f, hardly what we would call a marathon but there you go, that's the USA for you!

This is a race that should go to a British trained horse and it is Mastery that heads the market, from the in-form Godolphin yard. He won the St Leger over this 'marathon' trip and assuming he has recovered can show his class and win the opener. The best price is on Betfair, as many will be for the Breeders' Cup meet. Frankie Dettori is the man for the big occasion and we saw just how good he rides the track last year. This will be a big confidence boost to get the winner of the first race. The St Leger and Italian Derby winner is the one for me to the marathon.

Ventura won the Filly and Mares' Sprint last year, in good style and is a warm order to do so again. I suggest she will be about evens at the off, but layers may get some confidence from earlier races and push her out, if so I will be looking to take advantage.

Ventura has the class, she won the Grade One Woodbine Mile in September, the first time a filly has won the race in 13 years. She could have run in the mile but is better at a shorter trip according to connections who would love to defend their title. I think she will and the form book says she should, Ventura is some way ahead on my ratings in this field. I watched her winning the Woodbine Mile on Youtube, her turn of foot is her strength, a class mare who is banker bet material. Ventura is a serious winning machine and is the best bet of the night, if not the meeting.

For my value bet I am going to back Rainbow View in the closing race on Friday's card, win and place. Firstly, John Gosden is one man who knows how to win at Santa Anita having spent many years there as a trainer. He showed that last year with Ravens Pass who was a nearly horse for the first part of the season before peaking in the big one. Rainbow View may flourish here and at the price on offer I think we are getting some value. 1m 1f may be her ideal trip, she has the speed and the class and is certainly worth a sporting bet.

It should be a great night, with another on Saturday to look forward to.
