"At the early prices I think 16-1 and bigger is fantastic value, each-way for Knot in Wood (3.10). Richard Fahey has had a terrific campaign and always delivers his runners trained to the minute. Last year Knot in Wood led the far side group but finished fourth as the near side was the faster part of the draw."
Carl Harris is looking forward to a great day's racing today and hopes Radiohead puts in an all-singing-all-dancing performance to take the 2.20 at Newbury.
Saturday is a fantastic day of racing at Ayr, Newbury and Newmarket. The two best races are the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup and the Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury. The draw is going to be the big talking point with high numbers being favoured by trainers when the draw was made. With all the problems at Ayr this season I just hope that all goes off without a problem. That is a lie actually, I hope I back the winner too!
At the early prices I think 16-1 and bigger is fantastic value, each-way for Knot in Wood (3.10). Richard Fahey has had a terrific campaign and always delivers his runners trained to the minute. Last year Knot in Wood led the far side group but finished fourth as the near side was the faster part of the draw. Knot in Wood is a very good horse and he will have to be to shoulder top weight here. He landed a group three earlier in the season and landed the Skybet Dash at York before running a good race in the Stewards Cup at Goodwood where he finished third to Genki. The form is rock solid and at 16-1 this is a very solid win and place bet.
The Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury can go to Radiohead (2.20) who has group one form, against older horses in the book following his big run in the Nunthorpe, at York. A group two winner at Royal Ascot, he showed a fantastic turn of foot under Jamie Spencer who gets the leg up again today. The run at York shows just how good this two year-old is and deserves his rating of 113. I can't see anything beating him, now that Dick Turpin is not showing up. Radiohead is my best bet of the day.
Beyond Desire (2.35), Ayr, was a very good maiden winner and followed-up with a very good second in York's Lowther Stakes which has resulted in a rating of 105. The Lowther is a group two and was a strong renewal this year, with the time falling just short of the course record. A reproduction of that performance should be plenty good enough to win this group three contest. Neil Callan is, in my view, an excellent jockey and I see his booking as a huge positive.
Carl Harris' Best Bets for Saturday, 19th September
2.20 Newbury- Radiohead, Win
2.35 Ayr- Beyond Desire, Win
3.10 Ayr (Gold Cup)- Knot in Wood, Win and Place
