Carl Harris laments the quality of Thursday's racing but still finds three selections that are worth backing.

We have some brilliant racing at the weekend, sadly that is not the case on Thursday. You get the feeling that the summer is over and that the winter program is getting ready to kick in. We have two jumps and two flat cards, one of which is this evening at Kempton under the lights. We have been ticking over, with winners giving a modest profit so far this week but I am hoping that today will be a decent one as I have three bets for you.

Lady Hillingdon (3.40) was a ten length winner last time out at Fontwell and returns to the track with AP McCoy in the saddle in search of a quick double. This should turn in to a duel between McCoy and Richard Johnson aboard Walamo, indicative of the coming season and so may before. As has been the case for the past decade, I expect McCoy to prevail.

Sir Mark Prescott had a slow start to the season, but he has made up for it since with several horses running up prolific winning sequences. Valid Point (5.00) is one of his in mates to do just that with four consecutive wins so far. The gelding reappears following a comfortable win at Hamilton on Sunday in a race he ought to win. Rossie Jessop gets the mount in this apprentice riders race. She is attached to the yard and rides very well. Valid Point looks a very solid bet.

Darcey (6.00) has won three of her last four starts which were for Richard Fahey. It is a case of one for the girls tonight as the filly was claimed by Amy Weaver and will be ridden by Hayley Turner. Last time out Darcey was a very easy winner at Yarmouth and was claimed by new connections as a result. Back in a handicap and carrying a penalty I think she can still win at what should be a decent price.
