"All the boxes are ticked and backers can have the audacity to hope for another win, in my view."
Yesterday was a very pleasing day with Veiled winning by nine lengths and the treble was landed making it seven winners from the last eight bets. The next two days are big ones, hopefully we can make hay whilst the sun shines, writes Carl Harris.
There are very good cards on Friday at Ayr, Newbury and Newmarket with an all-weather card at Wolverhampton tonight. The three afternoon cards are highly competitive and kick off a very good weekend. On Saturday we have the Ayr Gold Cup and Mill Reef Stakes to deal with, I am looking forward to it immensely. Radiohead stands out in the Mill Reef at this stage, but we will look at that in detail tomorrow. I am once again sidestepping Ayr's card today in favour of Newbury and Newmarket.
Campanologist (2.45) runs in the 2:45 at Newbury. Godolphin are in such good form that it is a brave man who opposes them. This race is a group three, but I would suggest its title as an Arc trial is somewhat misleading. Campanologist was a group three winner at Windsor last time out having been consistent in group company all season. With rider and trainer in such good form I think Campanologist is a solid bet in a very good race at Newbury. A Campanologist is the posh name for bell ringing, this one certainly rings my bell here!
I love Audacity of Hope (3.05) as the name for a horse. Last week at Doncaster he was give a great ride to win under Kieren Fallon who is back aboard today with a six pounds penalty. I think that he can defy the extra weight in this small field. Newmarket is a course that should suit and ground conditions should mirror those at Doncaster last week. All the boxes are ticked and backers can have the audacity to hope for another win, in my view.
Carl Harris' Best Bets for Friday September 18
2.45 Newbury- Campanologist, Win
3.05 Newmarket- Audacity of Hope, Win
