On a difficult day for punters, Carl Harris is expecting the combination of virtuoso and vintage to land some value...
Last week I enthused about the abilities and never say die approach of Tony McCoy who provided a master class, along with two winners for us. Today he goes to sunny Stratford for just two rides and is worth following once again, on a day that looks difficult for punters.
The good to firm ground will suit Keep it Secret (7.45) perfectly with all of his six career wins being on similar going. Five of those wins were under Tony McCoy who gets as good a tune out of the eight year-old as a virtuoso does from a vintage Stradivarius. The pair face seven rivals and though fairly competitive we have McCoy on side which will do just fine and Keep it Secret should oblige for us.
The bet of the day is at Thirsk where Violent Velocity (7.30) reappears quickly after landing a gamble at the weekend in an apprentice race. There is no penalty today for that victory and the young jockey takes off seven pounds, which for a horse ahead of the handicapper is a huge positive. His last win came in a hands and heels event and was drawing well away at the finish a sign that the horse is in very good order. This should be a quick double for John Quinn's gelding.
The heat wave has arrived, lets hope the winners follow.
