Daily Racing Tips: Doubles all round at Chester?

Carl Harris is hoping for a quick one-two in tonight's racing at Chester.

As the song says, two out of three ain't bad, which is a perfect summary of yesterday. We are running at seven winners from the last nine bets and I hope that the success continues today, which looks full of possibilities.

It's the George Baker show once again at Folkstone (2.30), which could have a happy ending this time. All three George's team up once again but it is a brave man who bets against Tom Dascombe at the moment so though I hope he wins I will not be backing George Baker, having not seen much from him to date.

A much better bet is Mark Johnston's filly at Chester tonight, Alpen Glen (7.45), who comes here from a win at Chepstow, scoring by six lengths and overturning the odds-on and well-thought-of favourite. The handicapper has awarded her a mark of 85 for that, but there could be much more in the tank. Although her trainer refutes it, his horses often come on for their first runs and Alpen Glen could be much better than a handicapper in future. I fully expect her to win despite the presence of stable mate Eastern Aria who was a good winner of a handicap at Goodwood last time. In short, Alpen Glen is full of potential.

My bet of the day is another late runner, Brassini (8.50). Up only two pounds for a length's victory at Sandown in what was a much better race than this, he can complete a Chester double for us. Recent winning form amongst his rivals is somewhat thin on the ground and it should be a quick double for Rod Millman's four-year-old.

So two bets today, let's hope the good run of form continues.
