What a great day in store, the Hennessy Gold Cup and the Fighting Fifth. Both very interesting and very different races. This is what makes punting fun, quality horses competing in the best races. I have really focused on the jumps, spending more time on less cards (ignoring the all-weather) which is paying dividends, as my P&L will testify.

Paul Nicholls has really put the cat amongst the pigeons with Denman, saying he thinks the horse faces a tough task and is not expected to win. Hopefully the layers will latch on to those words and start offering silly prices about the former Gold Cup winner. In my view if Denman was not showing his old sparkle he would run in an easier race, rather than lumping a huge weight around Newbury. I may be wrong, but that's what betting is all about!

13:50 Newcastle (Fighting Fifth) Binocular - Win. The Fighting Fifth Hurdle 2010 is one of the best renewals for many a year, in my view. Binocular is justifiably the short price favourite, a horse who only ever gets beaten at Cheltenham and is almost unbeatable elsewhere. Solwhit staked his claim with a big win over Hurricane Fly in Ireland but Binocular is top class. Nicky Henderson has said he is delighted with Binocular at home and is certainly ready for the grade one clash. Sublimity adds extra spice to the contest but I am sticking with the class act in Binocular who I think is the best bet of the day.

14:40 Newbury (Hennessy Gold Cup) Denman - Win. The Gold Cup Winner of 2008 put up a sensational performance a couple of years ago to win the Hennessy but has suffered from health complications since then. However, he ran amazingly well to be runner-up in the Gold Cup. A break will have freshened him up and hopefully we can see the old Denman back. For me the Gold Cup run is top class, and I believe that if connections were not of the view that Denman could win the Hennessy he would not make his debut off such a big weight with easier options available. Grand National winner Mon Mome also makes his seasonal debut along with the Queen's Barbers Shop, but it looks all about Denman and I will back him win and place.

13:35 Newbury, Big Bucks - Win. The Long Distance Hurdle attracted only nine entries, prior to declarations. Amongst them was Big Bucks, the World Hurdle winner who is top class and should win this readily having over a stone in hand. You will not get any sort of price, but what I like to do is to double my bets with such a good thing for a nice bonus. I think Big Bucks will defend his crown at Cheltenham, this should be nothing more than a piece of work for Paul Nicholls charge.

   favorite,odds on favorite, even shorter odds on favorite - no imagination with your bets there again then ! denman wont and cant win. big bucks might but not at 1.45. duc de reginere is better bet and binocular will get beat by solwhit.
