It felt like winter at Hereford yesterday but a winning afternoon made up for the awful weather, says Carl Harris. Will things brighten up in the sky and keep going on the course at Salisbury today?

Excitement is building ahead of Kieran Fallon's to the saddle on Friday at Lingfield. But I fail to see what the fuss is all about. I am not a huge Fallon fan, but it will get racing some good coverage which is a good thing. For someone who said he would let his riding do the talking, he has done a lot of talking prior to getting in the racing saddle!

Shamandar (3.50) was second to Monsieur Chevalier in the Super Sprint then went down by the shortest of margins in a listed contest last time out at Newbury. On both occasions William Haggas' filly hung in the closing stages and should really have won last time had her jockey straightened her up sooner. Michael Hills now replaces Kirsty Milczarek who has partnered the filly on all her career starts to date. At the weights and with the form she has a huge chance and will find it hard to get the better of Michael Hills.

Covert Ambition (5.35) should come here with an unbeaten record but has two career wins from four starts having only ever been beaten by Godolphin stable mates. Those second place efforts were in decent contests which provides the best form in the field and his rating of 109 is the best of the field of six. This is a competitive conditions event but as is the recurring theme here, Godolphin are in blinding form and continue in that vein with Covert Ambition. Ted Durcan takes the ride.
