On a tough day, can Carl Harris turn up a couple of diamonds in the rough?

Tuesday is a real struggle.

There are three meetings with very poor cards at Sedgefield and Southwell (all-weather) and a glimmer of interest is raised with the Lingfield card (over jumps). That said if you were looking for a day off from racing, this is a perfect candidate.

We have some great racing again at the weekend and the entries for later this week are pretty decent too so no harm is done by missing today. Looking at the racing there are only a couple of horses worth backing, in my view.

12:40 Lingfield, Babe Heffron- Win. There are six runners over two miles in Lingfield's opener. Tom George has found an excellent race for Babe Heffron, returning after a break. Stable jockey Sam Thomas has made a great start in his new job and they will be disappointed not to get back to winning ways here. He has gone up 14 pounds following a win in May but he looks to be on an upward curve.

14:40 Lingfield, Dusk- Win. Evan Williams has acquired a horse with plenty of scope in Dusk, who has won twice from three starts to date for the Welsh handler. He reappears here under a seven pounds penalty following a seven length win at Fakenham. He was a winner at Ffos Las on Monday, in an amateur race, so escapes a further penalty here. If he turns up you have to say he has a huge chance of a quick fire double. From a mark of 88, even with the penalty I think he is well ahead of the handicapper and is by far the best bet of the day, the only serious bet you can have, in my view. A well handicapped horse, in form from a decent yard is a winning combination and I hope we will make the brave layers pay for taking this one on today - if he runs that is!
