"Cygnet looks the part physically and he got off the mark in a mile maiden here in October 2008, proving game in doing so. He shaped really well on his sole 3-y-o start, and he is the type to progress this year having been gelded."
A six race evening card at Nottingham is highlighted by an interesting ten furlong handicap...
Perpetually won his first two starts nine months apart, and has proved hard to get to the racecourse since. He didn't travel with the same fluency on both his starts on all-weather last month, but this stiffer test will help.
Shavansky notched up back-to-back victories over this trip on quick ground last summer, the first on his seasonal reappearance. He held his form well, but he returns this time on a stiff-looking mark.
Sirgarfieldsobers showed useful form in a light career for Aidan O'Brien, and really caught the eye on his debut for this yard at Pontefract this month. He has clear scope in handicaps off this mark.
Sohcahtoa landed a couple of wins at Goodwood at 2 yrs, but struggled on the whole in 2009. He produced a good reappearance in the Spring Mile and his stable are flying, but he has yet to prove he stays this far, and the blinkers are now on.
Cygnet looks the part physically and he got off the mark in a mile maiden here in October 2008, proving game in doing so. He shaped really well on his sole 3-y-o start, and he is the type to progress this year having been gelded.
Prince of Johanne completed the hat-trick over this trip at Sandown in August, and was not discredited on both starts the following month. He has been sold out of Jeremy Noseda's yard since, and he has a stiffish mark for his return.
Tinshu took her form to a higher level when winning twice over this trip on polytrack in November. There is a chance she'll strip fitter for her recent return at Doncaster, but she lacks the scope of a few of these.
Desert Vision showed gradual improvement when winning three times at up to twelve furlongs on polytrack over the winter. He enhanced his profile even further in defeat on his penultimate start, but his turf efforts are not nearly as encouraging.
Iron Out was twice successful in handicaps at Wolverhampton in December in the space of five days. He has not been so good in three starts this year, and is more exposed than most here.
Sam Sharp was a Newbury maiden winner early last season, but he didn't make the expected progress in handicaps after that, and he will probably need a career-best effort.
Veroon is a likeable sort who paid his way last year, winning three times at up to this trip. He returns with his stable in good order, so would not rule out a prominent showing at decent odds.
Verdict
Luca Cumani is a trainer in good form this season, and his lightly-raced Cygnet looks a likely type on reappearance, with the prospect of plenty more to come. Sirgarfieldsobers shaped well for his new stable recently and is a live threat, along with Veroon.
