Here's hoping beacon can light up my betting today...

Today's 80/20 is Beacon Lodge in the 13:40 at Newbury.

This son of French 2000 Guineas winner Clodovil cost 140,000gns as a yearling made a very taking debut at Haydock - his only run so far - when he ran second to Striking Spirit.

That day he ran very freely and I do not think that he really appreciated the quick ground as he hung alarmingly in the race.

Clodovil really needed cut in the ground and I am sure that today he will show some improvement. Provided Beacon Lodge can settle better today we should have a good chance of landing the 80/20 at a reasonable price.
