Hedgehunter's Gold Cup participation was thrown into doubt on Thursday after the horse was reported to be 'sore' and in need of a rest.
The 2005 Grand National winner had traded as low as 20 for the Cheltenham showpiece but trainer Willie Mullins has now suggested his gelding may miss the race.
"The main aim is the Grand National and we'll have to see about Cheltenham," Mullins told BBC Sport.
"I'm going to give him a few days off, I'm just not happy with him.
"Hopefully, he'll get over it and we'll proceed on with him. He's just a little bit sore.
"Our whole focus is Aintree, and if Cheltenham comes up, all well and good."
The 11-year-old has been at the head of the Grand National market throughout the winter but now trades at 20 for the Aintree feature on April 14.
The market is currently dominated by Irish-trained runners with only Paul Nicholls' Eurotrek (22) in the top six in the betting.
Numbersixvalverde trades at 14.5 just ahead of Point Barrow on 15.5. Dun Doire can be backed at 18 while Hedgehunter and recent Down Royal scorer Far From Trouble are available at 20.
