Was this the best value back bet in the history of Betfair?

Sea The Stars drifted to [14.5] on Betfair as torrential rain hit Leopardstown on Wednesday night, but he once again cemented his superstar status - and surely his place in the list of recent greats - with an another easy victory in the Irish Champion Stakes today.

He returned the winner at Betfair SP of [1.75] (industry SP of [1.66]).

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "Stand up the Betfair punter who pressed the lay button at [14.5] at precisely 9.15pm and 24 seconds on Wednesday night - you have perhaps struck the worst value bet in Betfair's history!

"Certainly, this looks the best horse to have raced in Betfair's existence since June 2000, with perhaps only Dubai Millennium, Dubai World Cup winner and 8 length winner of the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot in that year, rivalling him."

Sea The Stars currently trades as the [3.65] favourite for the Prix de l'Arc De Triomphe at Longchamp on October 4.
