Richard Hannon is all set to have a big season, and his horses have started well.

Timeform looks at two trainers in form so far this month...

"Spring has sprung early for the stable, and their horses have been bounding in, with four winners coming from just ten runners so far this month."

Richard Hannon will start the 2010 Flat season with the biggest string of any British-based trainer and he may lay down a serious challenge to become champion after finishing fourth last year. The Wiltshire handler has just started to send out his first horses and the early signs of the yard's form are good. In the last fortnight, just six entries were made, and three produced victories. Pastello finally got off the mark on with a win in a handicap at Kempton, and the form has already been boosted by the second going in since. Mawaddah was another that had looked exposed, but he returned from his winter break to land a maiden at Lingfield, on the same day that Lucky Redback also made a successful comeback. Lucky Redback had shown some promise as a juvenile, but had clearly suffered some problems since finishing tailed off in the Horris Hill in 2008, and, credit to Hannon, he returned from over a year off the track to score in impressive fashion, the bare result not reflective of how far ahead of his mark he is. He is one to follow.

James Ewart is enjoying an excellent March thus far, with his horses in fine form in the North. A small yard of around thirty horses based in Dumfriesshire in Scotland, the Ewart team had been enduring a quiet winter, sending out just four winners since November. However, spring has sprung early for the stable, and their horses have been bounding in, with four winners coming from just ten runners so far this month. The highlight had to be Sa Suffit landing the Kelso Premier Chase, for his third win in just four starts this season. He is a likeable sort and his connections have indicated that he will go for the big three-mile handicap chase on Grand National day.
